It all started in 1987, when Marilyn knew she had to do something and created Fitzsimmons Cunningham KS Insurance Agency. Just a few short years after the agricultural economic class of the 80s, Marilyn had an interest in insurance. And with the new rollout of the new Federal crop insurance program, she saw light. Thus, Fitzsimmons insurance was born. Since then, Marilyn’s daughter, Leann and grandson, Brandon, join the business. We are now a second generation agency and everybody in the family is actively involved in agricultural and a rural way of life.
The original office location of Cunningham KS Insurance Agency was on the back porch of the original Fitzsimmons family homestead. This is located about 5 miles west of Cunningham and dated back to around 1870. Marilyn worked the insurance business while also helping her husband and son run the farm. Eventually the business outgrew the home office, and Marilyn found in office space in Cunningham located on old Highway 54. With this new location, located in the lower floors of one of the local hotels, Marilyn and her staff stated this location for a few years. Then she decided to upgrade to an office building next to our current location.
As business for Cunningham KS Insurance Agency continue to grow, and with the help from her family, husband, and many friends, they were able to remodel the old hardware store building. After remodeling the old hardware store building that is next-door, they moved into the current location at 116 North Main St. in Cunningham. The current location opened in the early 2000’s. All through the former office locations, including the family homestead, are no longer standing. However, our current location is here to stay. Fitzsimmons insurance just be one of the remaining few small town, locally owned insurance agents in our area. Our goal is to always do the right thing, going back to our farming, old-school upbringing, and Christian morals.
In 2011, is when Leann joined her mom in the business and started helping her to continue to grow it. When Marilyn wanted to semi-retire in 2019, Leann son Brandon joined the business. Brandon has been working for several local farmers over the past two years and was seeking a career change. Currently, Marilyn oversees the business from the comfort of her recliner, offering her helpful wisdom and advice that only comes from years of experience in the industry and farming industry. Leann oversees the day-to-day operation of the office, with Brandon working closely with the agricultural customers, America’s ranchers and farmers.
